Mom grew up in the Middle East with Indian and Filipino parents, while Dad grew up in Kentucky with Taiwanese parents. And they’ve been traveling, eating and laughing through life together ever since they met. Guests took home favor bags at the end of the shower, which included organic dark chocolates from Whole Foods and foil-wrapped globes. Ok, so I thought yesterday’s was awesome, but today’s? Man, if I EVER have a baby, this will be what I want for my shower.

Cupcakes are a must have for any baby shower! Make sure that your cupcakes fit with the theme by using these map themed cupcake wrappers. Fill miniature suitcases with international candies for an extra flair of intrigue and create a label for each food item that has a short bit of info on the culture that food comes from. Last but not least is the event cake, which should be detailed and unforgettable. A cake in the shape and image of the earth, or a flat sheet cake in the image of a treasure map are both excellent ideas that are jaw-dropping with details. It’s a creative and sumptuous way to welcome a baby. I love all the ideas from the globe and the food, etc. I no longer have a baby nor am I expecting another one, but I can use this idea for my kid’s birthday party and just tweak it a bit.

Brandon’s sister, Portia, assisted me again on the day of the shoot. The baby onesies on a clothes line is one of her tried-and-true baby shower decorations. Portia and I were a lot better at the whole food styling thing the second time around. I am definitely a big fan of themed parties and I loved the idea of incorporating travel into my shower. We made a pact when we got married - one date a week no matter what! My daughter is doing a travel theme nursery for her baby boy and I’d LOVE to get her one or 2 of them.

Below the food table was this string of childhood photos of me. One of the shower games was for everyone to guess my age in each of the photos! My sister made an adorable printout for everyone to use to participate. The food had international themes, of course most are Americanized but it’s the idea that counts! We had cupcakes with flags from every country, macaroons, French pastries, and an Italian soda bar in the sweet realm.

When you pick them up, they open and inside the suitcase reveals the table number/name. When autocomplete results are available use up and down arrows to review and enter to select. The perfect topper was used on the amazing cake by Morfeys Cakes, which made people chuckle! The light-hearted “Baby Bump or Beer Belly” game appealed to both the males and the females at the Taste Around the World Baby Shower, as well. My sisters were kind enough to throw me a shower with a theme that just fit us perfectly- “Welcome to the World! ” complete with design and branding done by my very talented little sister. The parents-to-be wanted to celebrate their little girl’s upcoming arrival by celebrating her heritage and things that reflect their interests as a family.

Think decorations of maps and travel pieces and food and games from all over the globe! There is no better way to welcome a new little one than to throw a party in the spirit of how wonderful and diverse the world around us really is. Get your gold embossed, postcard invitations ready because this will be a baby shower your guests will remember forever. Throw in some international candies and wrap it all up in a round container that replicates a globe. You can also hand these out as prizes during guest party games.

This is a fun one – not just welcoming a baby into a family, but into the entire world. And I love the decoupage letters with the vintage maps – that would be great for a permanent design element in a baby’s room. They’re one of my favorite local shops, and they let me borrow the amazing vintage globes you see throughout the photos for the shoot.

We have already been to some of the places, Hawaii, Paris, New York, and Ireland in his 2 1/2 years . This is my most cherished piece of “art”, I feel the love of our friends and family whenever I see it. How adorable would this sign look at your baby shower? This welcome sign would look great in a hallway or on a front door to welcome guests to the party. The sign reads “Welcome Aboard Airways” and inclues the name of the baby being celebrated in bright red. Of course, it can be customized to match the colors of your baby shower.

Other great decoration additions are license plates from all over the world posted up on the wall, different country flags, and even flooring décor that mimics roads. Of course, if your baby shower is a gender reveal shower, be sure to incorporate more oranges and blues for a boy and more pinks and violets for a girl. This globe and “oh the places you’ll go” print were on the gift table. I now have this print framed and on display in my son’s nursery actually! My sister hand-lettered this sign too, and the little globe was painted by me (as taught by the “globe painting course” by Lexington artist Kayla Weber!).

I liked the invitations that I designed for this one a lot. They were based on the look of a topological map. We also did a quick game of “Guess Who” where you have to predict how the parents answered, in favor of Mom versus Dad. I used so many of our own things, and borrowed from friends , that there wouldn’t be much left to giveaway. And of course Portia and I brought all of the food back home to our families! I did give the newborn diapers to my assistant, who was expecting at the time.

World trivia, crosswords, and world puzzles are all enjoyable games that will have your guests laughing and having the best time. Décor for Travel themed baby shower is so fun to put together.
